A Sheep in Wolf's Clothing

"Oops I'm drunk!" My favorite quote of an old friend. Sadly, pride drove us apart as is the case with so many women I have known. But genders aside my life is a testament to the fact that any randomly drawn person on the positive side of the intelligence bell curve will fight tooth and nail in order to refuse the recognition of a person higher than themselves along the bell curve. Why? Because intelligence is so elusive that it escapes common definition and one can always substitute intelligence with belligerence together with the old maxim that "might makes right" is known consciously and subconsciously to all intelligent introspectors, case in point the current U.S. president.

But this aside, what do you really have to fear? Am I going to yell at you for being human? Are you too proud to apologize for it or are you too fearful that your apology is a form of admission of mortal frailty? Shakespeare said as Hamlet, "Frailty, thy name is woman!". I say, "Frailty, thy name is humanity!" Am I to be crucified for my observations or for my pointing out of them. No I shall not yield! But you point out that I too err. True and when have I not admitted this to you and when I have not bowed down before your truth. No, you squirm because I do not bow before your bullshit. But rather than trouble you this should delight you. Congratulate rather than condemn me. Make me an ally rather than an enemy and then life will seem a little less pointless, a little less scary and a little less unforgiving. We make our own forgiveness. Do not make the mistake of asking for forgiveness, but rather be sorry and rectifying and forgiveness will come your way, actions not words.

You carry with you all my mistakes and all my triumphs and I yours, be fair to yourself, myself and true to history and you will find that I would humble myself in the face of your honesty. But you must first try. No! Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Theresa, William, Myself, and Anna are definitely going. As is Kelly & friends last time I checked. I haven't heard anything from spleen/lunar, but last I heard were going too. Chris is riding down with us and then camping with the death guild.

Basically I don't think anyone who was going to go has backed out other than Cait, but I'm not completely in the loop, so I can't be sure.

It is not that we individuals from the upper percentiles of the Bell curve hate acknowledging that there are people higher than us, or even acknowledging that specific people are higher than us. What we hate, what *I* hate and have observed that other people also hate through experience, is being talked down to. Condescension builds resentment, doubly so if it is honest condescension because then there is no easy parry to turn it aside and the only recourse people have left is to dodge into denial.

And of course, we only bother to worry about this pecking order bullshit because we’re safe and have our needs met for the most part. If we were currently on the run from the government or under siege from zombies people would care far more about what is said, and proportionally less about how it is said.

Although I don't know what this is:

I would say you were exactly right. Though, I am convinced that people are capable of adding their own tone and interpretation to things once fear sets in. That is once the idea, onset of the idea or actual realization sets in, panic and anxiety allow us to read threats and condescension where there are none. This fits nicely in with your correct theory that it is all because we are so rarely threatened (and bored) in our safe modern life that hypothetical implication and subjective tone weigh in heavier than content and actual meaning.

The first part is complete gibberish. I tend to write up my posts in word and then copy/paste them. I didn't open a new document for this comment and so got the last comment as well when I selected all. Sorry about that. If you want context for the first part you can find it at:

Agreed. It seems that half of learning how to act mature is figuring out how to make sure that things interpretable as threats/condescension don't accidentally slip into our communications.
